Just over a week ago, in early January, DCC lost a good friend and supporter of the club to the Covid crisis.
Alfred, the resident caretaker at Waller Park, will mostly be known to our 3rd/4th XI players, families and followers and we are very sad to be reporting his passing.
Although not a cricket fanatic himself, Alfred was a vital, if often unknown, presence in facilitating our multiple-use (for adult and junior cricket) of Waller Park for the last 10 years or so. He was a great support to our Grounds Team in particular, not only at Waller Park, but also at both of our other grounds, as he possessed a limitless knowledge of engines and machinery of all shapes and sizes. At any sign of a breakdown, he was always ready and willing to offer advice and lend a helping hand to keep our mowers, scarifiers, and rollers etc on the road!
The club would like to take this opportunity to express condolences to Alfred’s family and friends.
He will be very sorely missed.
