I'd like to thank all of those of you who made time to come along to be involved in and support Sunday's charity cricket festival and helped make the day a great success. I'm sure you all had a good time and even the weather was kind to us, saving the daily rainfall for after we'd finished and cleared up.
There are too many to mention individually but I'd particularly like to thank all of those that volunteered their time to help run the attractions and activities.
The final fund raising total is still being worked out but I expect The Club and Arrow Riding Centre to each receive a donation in the region of £750.
In addition to the obvious injection of funds to the club the particular highlights for me weren't my bowling being dispatched to all parts but seeing so many people in the ground throughout the day enjoying playing and watching cricket.
The 'piece de resistance' though, perhaps fittingly for the conclusion of a 'cricket festival', has to be 25+ boys and girls of all ages taking the field for the last three overs, bowled (very well, too well in fact) by three of our juniors.
I do however think it was just a well planned & cunning strategy by the opposition to win the game!
Gareth Johnson MP said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the day and Dartford Cricket Club really pulled out the stops to make it a success. I am keen to make this day a yearly event and preparations have already begun on organising next year's game.
"It was also pleasing for me that my team won, although I concede that having around forty fielders towards the end of the game may have helped!"
As Gareth says we are going to do this again next year and want to make it bigger and better so thank you again for supporting your club and if you are interested in helping with next year's event please let me know.
Chairman, Dartford Cricket Club
