Kent Cricket Board’s under 9 Mini Super 8s County Finals day saw 23 Cricket Clubs once again converge on Dartford Cricket Club on Sunday 15th September.
The event held at Hesketh Park was the culmination of a competition which saw 80 teams participate in local qualifying events with the winners advancing to Finals day.
On a day which started bright and sunny, nearly 250 children braved the change of weather in the afternoon to enjoy a memorable day. All teams played round robin leagues during the morning with the highest placed winners progressing to play in the afternoon finals league.
The grand final saw Beckenham take on Tunbridge Wells with both sides undefeated prior to the final. After an excellent close match which went down to the wire, Tunbridge Wells ran out as winners and were crowned 2013 Champions.
Thanks to club volunteers
From a DCC/TuckShop point of view it was a very successful event but also did the image and reputation of our club a lot of good. The feedback from KCB was that they were very happy with the event and would like us to host again next year.
Claire Gould from KCB said: "Each manager I saw thanked and praised DCC for the well organised event which I know was again much due to the support of the volunteers. I know the refreshment stand and the BBQ had an unrelenting queue for most of the day but all the volunteers did a fantastic job."
Thanks to all those from the club helped out on the day including: Alison and Bryan Strudwick, Mac, Sean Compton, Peter Hughes, Sam Field, Nicola and Tim Clark, Michelle and Ian Slater, Pat Lippiatt, Lexi Gray, Alex Fox - apologies if we have missed anybody. Thanks also to Guy Wilson for running the Dartford Under 9 side, which came a creditable 10th.
In summary we served about 250 burgers, 150 bacon butties, 85 sausages in a roll, 7 veggie burgers and 500 cups of tea and coffee, not to mention countless soft drinks, snacks, biscuits and chocolate!
